How can AI be used to bridge the gap between data and human emotions

Renowned American Futurist Ray Kurzweil once said, “Artificial intelligence will reach human levels by around 2029. Follow that out further to say, 2045, we will have multiplied the intelligence, the human biological machine intelligence of our civilization a billion-fold.”

IS AI THE FUTURE? NO, AI IS HERE & NOW!

On hearing the term Artificial Intelligence, innumerable thoughts pass through our mind; many courtesy the sci-fi movies the topic inspires. Majority of people feel that AI powers, intelligent Robots that can do absolutely anything, Machines that can learn human skills & driver-less cars. People agree AI will bring positive changes for human civilization, but their understanding of its application and technology is very limited.

Robotics, Human Computer Interface, Natural Language Processing, Neural Networks & Machine learning – all the words associated with AI sound very complex. However, the reality is, with AI evolving day by day, it is getting easier for people to access and implement it in their enterprises. Not so long ago, only big organizations would delve deep with Big Data & AI. Small scale industries because of various factors like lack of funds, limited understanding and time crunch, have stayed away from incorporating AI & Machine Learning tech in their day to day processes. Now, fortunately, due to the continuous expansion of the internet world, open source software libraries, new startups making the tech user friendly, even small industries can reap benefits of the progress.

Let’s take an example of improving product experience for your customers, AI allows user experience to be dynamically optimized according to the surroundings, environment, behaviour and needs of that particular person. This is where Emotion Tech comes into picture. To mould experiences according to the change in human behaviour, mood or thought process one needs to identify & track human emotions efficiently. Brands uses a number of techniques to measure the sub-concious and conscious emotions of their customers.

WHEN EMOTIONS, AI AND DATA ARE LINKED

Emotions play a central role in most forms of natural human interaction & so do the computational methods for identification & processing of emotions. Many prominent scientists have predicted that, the day we can download our thoughts and subconscious to a machine, is not far.

Techniques like EEG, Facial Recognition, GSR, EMG are among the widely used biometric techniques even today. With the help of machine learning algorithms emotions can be quantified with near perfect accuracy. Combine this data mine with intelligent AI & brands are able to create dynamically changing experiences.

A GLANCE AT WHERE AI IS HEADED

Marketing opportunities are growing day by day as the internet is expanding and increasing its dominance over offline modes of marketing, but so is the clutter of brand messages a person is exposed to everyday. This is an exciting time for content creators/ product managers who are eager to be more productive and achieve new impact levels, to be working with human emotions. Combining Emotion Tech with AI is the best possible way to extend and augment human capability with machines to solve problems that affect businesses. Even the long standing issues related health, poverty, education and politics can benefit from this synergy.

According to researcher Gartner, AI bots will power 85% of customer service interactions by 2020. If there is a problem, taking a new look at solving it through the lens of AI will almost always be warranted; not only for the well funded MNCs but for startups alike.

So, the conclusion is, AI is not a doomsday sentence and it doesn’t have to be complicated. Instead, it can be immensely effective, given, (in our founder Ranjan’s words) “We empower computers and machines to become not only Artificially Intelligent but also Emotionally Perceptive.”
